Dubbo: The zoo took out two awards at the Australian Tourism Awards last week, according to Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Mr Ayres said the people of Dubbo should be proud of the recognition. "Well this is the creme de le creme of tourism awards in Australia," he said. "So to have the Western Plains Zoo recognised against the highest and best performing tourism operators anywhere in the country I think is the testament to the fantastic work the crew at the zoo do and also the work that the whole city of Dubbo does to get behind it." Mr Ayres said the success of the Western Plains Zoo showed the benefit of regional tourism to the state economy. "Dubbo had a fantastic night at the Australian Tourism Awards," he said. "The Western Plains Zoo took out the silver award for a tourist attraction and also a bronze award for unique accommodation. "So it just a fantastic job the Western Plains Zoo is doing."
