Private Landlords and King College London

Chris Townley: The law firm, which is taking the case on a no-win-no-fee basis, says that landlords may have been overcharged when the estate agency let or managed their properties, according to The Guardian. It is attempting to sign up landlords to its claim. At least that is the picture being painted by the London law firm Leigh Day, which is attempting to launch a class action against the publicly-listed estate agent on behalf of private landlords. One of the first to do so is Chris Townley, a lecturer in competition law at King College London, who previously worked as a case officer at the Office of Fair Trading. He claimed he then discovered that the £550 he had been charged actually consisted of the contractor fee of £412.50, plus a commission for Foxtons. He said he was dissatisfied with the quality of work done by a contractor who had installed a security light at the front of the property following a request by the tenant. (news.financializer.com).
