Tokyo Market

: On Monday, the key market gauge shed 19.29 points, according to The Japan Times. The Topix finished down 12.06 points, or 0.73 percent, at 1,639.86, after gaining 0.44 point the previous day. The Nikkei 225 average lost 129.85 points, or 0.64 percent, to end at 20,257.94. The Tokyo market opened weaker after European and U.S. equities fell Monday. Stocks extended losses in the middle of the morning session, led by selling of index-futures. Investor sentiment was dampened by growing uncertainty over efforts to avert a default of debt-laden Greece and by receding optimism over the course of the U.S. economy after weaker-than-expected economic data, brokers noted.
