China Shanghai Composite Index and Stock Markets

Asia: Broad losses in U.S. stocks overnight weighed on some stock markets in Asia, according to Market Watch. The blue-chip index Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.32% on Thursday fell in its biggest daily percentage loss since Feb. 11. China Shanghai Composite Index SHCOMP, -0.25% closed down 0.3%, while Hong Kong Hang Seng Index HSI, -1.50% ended down 1.5%. Elsewhere in Asia, Korea Kospi SEU, -0.34% fell 0.3%, and Australia S&P/ASX 200 XJO, +0.51% rose 0.5%. Japan stock market was closed in observance of a public holiday. Data showing that the U.S. economy advanced at its slowest pace in the first quarter in two years and mixed corporate results recently have disappointed investors. Additionally, we see that there no quantitative easing from the central bank of Japan, and that disappoints most investors. Those factors have hurt the overall market sentiment, particularly for Hong Kong, said Castor Pang, head of research for Core Pacific-Yamaichi International, a Hong Kong brokerage.
