National Holiday and Tokyo Market

: On Thursday, the key market gauge tumbled 624.44 points, according to The Japan Times. The Tokyo market was closed Friday for a national holiday. The 225-issue Nikkei average nose-dived 518.67 points, or 3.11 percent, to end at 16,147.38. The Topix index of all first-section issues closed down 40.59 points, or 3.03 percent, at 1,299.96, after falling 43.75 points the previous trading day. In the early morning, the Nikkei average dropped below the psychologically important 16,000 for the first time since April 12 on an intraday basis, on heightened wariness over earnings deterioration at major export-oriented companies. Both indexes extended their losing streak to a fifth session. (news.financializer.com). As reported in the news.
