The disease was first discovered in Australia in 2010 after an outbreak in France in 2008. Mr Calvert told ABC Radio Country Hour program the return of POMS to Pittwater came as no surprise. Earlier this year the disease wiped out millions of juvenile oysters when it was detected in six Tasmanian commercial growing regions Lower Pittwater, Upper Pittwater, Pipe Clay Lagoon, Blackman Bay, Little Swanport and Dunalley Bay.
